Walsey Hills
for as little as 14p per day.
13th August 2026

It was a good morning for ringing with little to no wind so I spent the morning at Walsey. We processed 41 birds, 34 new and 7 retraps! It was a good day for Blackcap, Whitethroat and nice to catch a Lesser Whitethroat. Our ringing totals are below. We got started well before sunrise at 5am to make the most of the conditions before it got too hot! Whilst doing net rounds we had a lovely Golden Plover going over calling.
The site is full of Blackberries and Sloeberries now, ready for autumn! Snipe’s Marsh is completely dry and I’ve never seen Walsey looking so brown/the vegetation has grown very little this year compared to previous years. We are very much in need of some rain!
