Little Tern – Seamus Griffin
Despite the early start it wasn’t suitable conditions for ringing this morning at the Obs with a pretty brisk westerly. Once it had warmed up in the afternoon we checked all of our nest boxes with 3 boxes occupied this year. We ringed 9 Great Tit in one box. Two of the other boxes were occupied by Blue Tit, one brood was too small to ring so I’ll need to check on them in a week or so.
There was a foraging party of Swift and Swallow most of the morning feeding low in front of the obs. There was a Wheatear and 2 Little Tern at Gore Point, the Little Tern were flying together over Lavender Marsh close to the public footpath so it was great to see them so close!

Swift low over the Obs
We had 8 species in the moth trap this morning with 1 Hebrew Character, 1 Cinnabar, 1 Black-headed Conch, 2 Banded Hedge Grey, 1 Vine’s Rustic, 1 Chocolate Tip, 1 Muslin and 1 Beet Moth.

Chocolate Tip, they have very fuzzy legs!
