Chocolate Tip
It turned out to be sheltered around the nets this morning despite the north westerly wind, luckily we’re often very sheltered in a northerly with the help of the pines!
Perhaps not surprising given the wind conditions but it was quiet for migrants with only one new Sedge Warbler, 1 Goldfinch and the first juvenile Dunnock of the year, very fresh and fluffy! We also had 8 retraps, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Cetti’s Warbler, 1 Blue Tit and 4 Sedge Warbler, one of which was the first French ringed bird I caught a few weeks ago! So, a nice male that is sticking around to breed.
Around the Obs the highlight of the day has been the Hirundines feeding low over the pines and Broadwater, with Sand Martin, House Martin, Swallow and Swift all swirling round together feeding. The Swallow don’t often perch on the trees here however I had 9 birds at one point on the Alder outside the Obs. Along the Broadwater I’ve had a Common Sandpiper and Greenshank, and 2 Spoonbill feeding!

It’s still been pretty quiet in the moth traps but we did have some new species with a lovely Chocolate Tip and Chamomile Straw! We also had 2 Shuttle Shaped Dart, 1 Light Brown Apple Moth, 2 Turnip, 1 Cinnabar and 1 Treble Lines.
