It’s been another good day for birds at Holme! There were south/south easterlies overnight changing to south westerly today and some showers mid-morning, which made for a pretty chilly day. We recorded 71 species in the recording area with some migrants on the move with at least 3 Ring Ouzel, 11 Wheatear and 3 Redstart (a male and two females) and two fly over Yellow Wagtail, all in the dunes. A third Yellow Wag went west at Thornham later in the day and then we had a fourth west over the pines. A Tree Pipit was also reported going overhead earlier in the day. A Lesser Whitethroat was singing on the River Hun.

At Thornham in the morning there were 2 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Pintail, 1 Whimbrel and 2 Wheatear, along with a trickle of Swallow and House Martin. The Hirundine passage across the day was steady with small numbers, picking up in the afternoon. At the end of the day, we recorded 76 Swallow, 42 House Martin and 25 Sand Martin. We have still yet to see or find a Garganey!

The Little Egret have been displaying from the car park hide pools over the past few days and we seen them mating this morning!
