Crossbill – Seamus Griffin
It ended up being a nice sunny afternoon at the Obs which is quite sheltered in a north westerly, but it was very cold when exposed in the wind! It was a quiet day for birding around the Obs with still very little sign of any migrants arriving, apart from the 4 singing Chiffchaff. There were 4 Crossbill first thing, which flew west through the pines. There were 11 Avocet from the car park hide and small flocks of Shoveler and Wigeon, which were being very flighty with multiple Marsh Harrier and Red Kite passing overhead causing chaos.
Another quiet night in the moth trap with only 2 Hebrew Character and 1 Powdered Quaker. With it being nearly April it would be really nice to get some sustained milder conditions to bring out some new species!
