27th March 2026

Curlew – Eric Yeomans

It was a really dreich, rainy and windy day at the Obs, very difficult conditions for birding! However, the highlight of the day was a Swallow going west through the pines, working hard against the wind! We also had 6 Snipe going over the Thornham pools which had just been flushed by a Kestrel. There were 3 Chiffchaff still singing despite the weather. Four Cattle Egret were again with their cows in the paddocks of the main NWT entrance track.

Similar species in the moth trap today with 1 Early Thorn, 6 Hebrew Character, 1 Clouded Drab and 4 Small Quaker.
