We had a good day ringing at the observatory with 79 birds caught including 16 Goldcrests, 1 Yellow-Browed Warbler, 15 Meadow Pipits, 20 Reed Bunting, 1 Robin, 4 Blue Tits, 1 Cetti’s Warbler, 1 Blackcap, 2 Great Tits, 2 Dunnock, 1 Greenfinch, 2 Redwing, 5 Blackbirds and 1 Kingfisher. We had a small number of retraps: 3 Cetti’s Warblers, 2 Blue Tits and 2 Goldcrests.

There were lots of birds around today and passing through, the highlights include: 7500 Pink-Footed Geese, 135 Brent Geese, 180 Greylag geese,  30 Blackbirds, 2 Mistle Thrust, 1 Fieldfare 1 Ring Ouzel, 140 Chaffinch, 40 Greenfinch, 64 Crossbills, 11 Siskin, 1 Woodlark, 7 Brambling, 30 Meadow Pipits, 5 Rock Pipits, 5 Pintail, 3 Tufted Ducks, 13 Shoveler, 125 Teal, 105 Wigeon, 30 Mallards, 5 Woodcock and 3 Jack Snipe.

We had some good numbers of moths today with 1 Willow Beauty, 15 Eudonia angustea, 45 Large Wainscot, 2 Red-Green Carpet, 5 White-Point, 6 Beaded Chestnut, 5 Lunar Underwing, 8 Black Rustic, 2 Yellow-Line Quaker, 1 Square-Spot Rustic, 1 Light Brown Apple Moth, 1 Shore Wainscot, 6 Large Yellow Underwing, 2 Blastobasis lacticolella, 2 Rusty-Dot Pearl, 1 Least Carpet, 2 Merveille du Jour, 1 Turnip, 1 Dark Chestnut, 2 Clancy’s Rustic and 1 Chestnut.
