A very mild day at the Observatory reaching 19 degrees with a lingering strong SW/WSW wind which was too strong to do any ringing. It was a Crossbill day! With a group of four in the morning at 1pm, a group of three at 15:30 (approx.), and a group of seven at 15:45. It’s unclear whether these were different birds or whether the same birds had been hanging around since early afternoon. There were 5 Pintail on the Broadwater and a Kingfisher in the afternoon.

Decent haul in the moth traps today considering the continuing windy conditions with 27 Large Yellow Underwing the most numerous, followed by 21 Lunar Underwing. We also had 1 Square Spot Rustic, 8 Feathered Ranunculus, 1 Dark Sword Grass, 2 Black Rustic, 1 Lesser Yellow Underwing, 1 Shuttle Shaped Dart and 1 Willow Beauty.
