On the sea today 31 Teal, 9 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 40 Gannets, 2 Great Crested Grebes, 8 Arctic and a single Great Skua, 142 Sandwich Terns and 8 Common Terns were recorded. Also of note were 2 Whimbrel, 3 Black-tailed Godwits, 29 Redshank, a Hobby drifting west, 5 Red Kites, 11 Swallows, 2 House Martins and a Lesser Whitethroat.
In the moth traps 2 Square-spot Rustics, 8 Archer’s Darts, 2 White Poits, 20 Large Yellow Underwings, 17 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 5 Vine’s Rustics, a Small Blood-vein, 2 Rusty-dot Pearls, a Gold Swift, a Shuttle-shaped Dart, a Smoky Wainscot, 2 Rosy Footmen, a Brown China-mark, Chinese Character, Ringed China-mark, 2 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwings, a Delicate, a Bordered Straw, a Turnip, 5 Agriphila geniculea, a Flame Shoulder, White-line Dart, 2 Frosted Oranges, a Common Wainscot, Silky Wainscot, 3 Agriphila tristella and a Ruby Tiger were caught.
A Humming-bird Hawk Moth was on the buddleia and Brown Argus, Small Copper, Painted Lady, Wall, Red Admiral, Peacock, Small and Large Whites were also noted. A Migrant Hawker was near the Observatory.
