A dry calm day. A Pied Flycatcher was again in the pines from late morning but mobile, while on the sea 6 Arctic Skuas, 10 Gannets, 25 Sandwich and 15 Common Terns, 8 Common Scoter, and 3 Great Crested Grebes were recorded. A flock of 16 Dunlin, 43 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Common Sandpipers, 2 Spoonbills, 8 Whimbrel, a kettle of 18 Buzzards and a Hobby were also of note. A Nuthatch in a garden near the golf course was unusual.
In the moth traps today 3 Agriphila geniculea, a Sharp-angled Peacock, Orange Swift, Straw Dot, 4 Large Yellow Underwings, 2 Broad-bordered Yellow Underwings, Anania crocealis, a Dotted Fanfoot, Straw Underwing, 2 Six-striped Rustic, 2 Agriphila tristella, 6 Vine’s Rustics, 9 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, a Hedge Rustic, a Small Square-Spot, 5 Common Wainscots, 5 Flounced Rustics, 2 Lesser Broad Bordered Yellow Underwings, 9 Archer’s Darts, a Small Blood-vein, Monopis weaverella, a Brown House Moth, 2 White Points, Pyrausta despicata, 2 Turnips, 2 Vine’s Rustics, a Shuttle-shaped Dart, and a Rusty-dot Pearl were caught.
