It was an overcast start with a moderate WSW wind in the morning that was too strong for ringing. However, by the afternoon the wind had dropped off so I was able to have some nets open. It was very quiet with only 4 Great Tit, 1 Blue Tit and 1 Lesser Whitethroat, all retraps. The Lesser Whitethroat was an adult bird we had ringed back in May and was in main moult (changing it’s flight feathers) and was almost completely finished, with brand new tail and flight feathers.

There was an elusive Pied Flycatcher in the early afternoon in the Pines in front of Dell Hide. There was a Hen Harrier from the NOA car park hide this morning. A Ruff went past on a seawatch, and an Arctic Skua and Red-throated Diver were also recorded. Two Turtle Dove flew through in the afternoon. A single Golden Plover was recorded.

Highlights from the moth traps today included 1 Small Blood Vein, 2 Silky Wainscot, 2 Frosted Orange, and 1 Six-striped Rustic.
