We focussed on ringing again today with 29 birds caught across the day. For new birds there was 18 of 7 species including 1 Long-tailed Tit, 1 Wren, 4 Chiffchaff, 5 Goldfinch, 2 Robin, 4 Dunnock and 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker! This is only the third Great Spotted Woodpecker ringed at the Obs, after one in 2012 and one in 2023! For retraps we had 11 of 5 species with 3 Great Tit, 1 Dunnock, 1 Long-tailed Tit, 4 Blue Tit and 2 Chiffchaff.

Similar haul in the moth traps today with 9 Flounced Rustic, 3 Lesser BB Yellow U’wing, 11 Archer’s Dart, 4 Large Yellow U’wing, 5 Setaceous Hebrew Character, 50 Common Wainscot, 5 Nutmeg, 12 Vine’s Rustic, 2 Frosted Orange, 7 White-point, 1 Smoky Wainscot, 7 Turnip, 1 Willow Beauty, 1 Brown-tail, 2 Flame Shoulder, 2 Straw Underwing, 2 Pale Eggar, 1 P. alpinella, 1 Mouse-moth, 1 Diamondback, 1 Small Wainscot, 1 White-line Dart, 1 Drinker, 1 A. tristella, 2 Yellowtail and 4 Dingy Footman.

There was an Arctic Skua on the sea in the afternoon and 50 Black-tailed Godwit and Redshank on the Broadwater pools. Approx 30 Curlew flew over the grazing marsh in the morning.
