Norfolk Ornithologists Association - NOA

As many of you may be aware, there was a large fire at Walsey Hills which started mid-afternoon on 14th October.

Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service were quickly on the scene and we cannot thank them enough for their work, quickly getting the fire under control and preventing any damage to the reserve, infrastructure and preventing loss of too much habitat. Over 40 firefighters were in attendance at its peak, with crews coming from as far as Heacham and Wroxham.

The fire mainly burnt within the mature gorse at the top of the hill, but the NOA Walsey Hills reserve itself is safe.

The Fire & Rescue Service have been monitoring the situation and dampening down any hotspots that flair up.
