Autumnal Curlew on the saltmarsh – Shannon Clifford
With rain forecasted to set in most of the morning and a decent north westerly blowing, we spent the morning seawatching. It ended up being surprisingly quiet given the conditions, however the wind only turned north westerly through the night so perhaps not quite long enough to get things moving!
Highlights from seawatching included 6 Arctic Skua, 1 Scaup, 1 Tufted Duck, 2 drake Eider, 1 Grey Heron and light passage of Little Gull and Kittiwake.

Elsewhere in the recording area the 3 Shore Lark were still on the eastern end of the beach along with a single Snow Bunting and at least 2 Lapland Bunting. There were a couple of Rock Pipit around today, and decent passage of Meadow Pipit with over 70 west (including a large flock of 28) with 6 ringed. There was still one Jack Snipe showing well from NWT Hide 1.
We had 26 species in the moth traps so it was a really good night considering the time of year, and highlights how mild it’s been! Highlights included 1 Cinnabar, Satellite, Dark Chestnut, Brick, Chestnut, Mallow, Barred Sallow, L-album Wainscot and Blood-vein. We were surprised to spot a Clouded Yellow fly past the Obs round the pond then disappeared!
