It was a calm start to the day with a lot of fog that only really cleared at lunch time. As it was overcast and not too windy, I opened some nets and put out the Meadow Pipit catching cage. I probably could have caught several because when I had a peek there were around 10-15 Meadow Pipits sitting around the trap – but unfortunately, they attracted a Sparrowhawk which came swooping down, spooking all of them. For the next 2 hours I didn’t see another Meadow Pipit.
Todays bird highlights are:
1 Cattle Egret, 207 Teal, 1 Snipe on Broadwater, 2 Brambling and 1 Firecrest amongst a Long-tailed Tit flock and finally at 4pm there were 2 Jack Snipe in front of the 3rd NWT hide.
