It was a perfect morning for bird ringing – calm and overcast and I was glad that Gary was able to help so that we could make the most of the good conditions. We caught 64 new birds and 14 retraps. My favourites were the two male Bearded Tits. Gary also had some very nice encounters with walkers on the coast path who had spotted our nets. They were keen to learn more about the work we do at the Obs.

Other bird sightings included 1 Snow Bunting on the beach, 2 Lapland Bunting on the tip of the beach and 2 Rock Pipit.

Todays moths were: 34 Lundar Underwing, 56 Beet Moth, 10 Narrow-winged Grey, 9 Large Yellow Underwing, 1 Oak Longhorn, 5 Feathered Ranuculus, 3 Rush Veneer, 2 Willow Beauty, 1 Red-line Quaker, 1 Deep-brown Dart, 6 Square Spot Rustic, 1 Brick, 1 Blackthorn Knot-horn, 1 Ruby Dot Pearl, 1 Box-tree Moth, 1 Chestnut, 1 Black Rustic, 1 Beaded Chestnut.
