Manx Shearwater – S. Clifford

Another day of seawatching, but today conditions were much improved with the wind having turned north westerly! The highlight of the seawatch was 2 Sooty Shearwater mid-morning, which soared past west reasonably close giving great views! Later on in the day we picked up a Merlin coming in off the sea, which appeared to be chased by a Manx Shearwater briefly, which came so close it was practically on the beach! Other highlights from the sea watch included 8 Manxie, 9 Arctic Skua, 2 Bonxie, Shoveler, 265 Sandwich Tern and 3 Arctic Tern. Full totals on Trektellen: https://www.trektellen.org/count/view/6392/20260920

Manxie, complete with a bit of beach, to show you just how close it was!

Our moth list is below with highlight being a lovely Gold Triangle.

There was definitely some movement of White sp. butterflies today with several coming in off the sea and many later nectaring around the Obs on the Buddleia. All that we checked were Small White.
