Orange Pine Tortrix

Well, it was a hot one today! Although the wind looked ok for ringing, I decided to not do any this morning due to the forecasted high temperatures. By 7am it was 30 degrees, then a thunderstorm came over around 9am which I think was sitting over the Wash (but sounded pretty close), followed by torrential rain, and then back to sun and reached 37 degrees!

The highlight of the day was finally finding a Quail! It was calling briefly around 0840am along the Broadwater close to the Obs. It was silent for the rest of the day but I heard it again 1410. From NWT Hide 1 I had 3 very vocal Bearded Tit fly past together. There were 3 Spoonbill too.

The moth traps were a bit quieter today with 25 species in the list below:

We had another Scarlet Tiger out flying in the sun this morning! The Bee Wolfs have been busy again on the main path through the reserve, busy excavating their holes and bringing back bee prey!
