Small Clouded Brindle

Another warm but windy day here. It was generally quiet for birds again today with the highlight being a nice Spoonbill having a snooze from the first NWT hide.

It was a very good night for moths here at Holme this morning, somewhat unexpected after yesterday! We had 1 Willow Beauty, 2 Large Yellow Underwing, 2 White Ermine, 3 Meadow Grass Moth, 2 Buff Tip, 11 Turnip, 4 Mottled Rustic, 3 Middle Barred Minor, 2 Garden Mompha, 1 Fern, 1 Giant Water Veneer, 1 Brown Moss-moth, 6 Marbled Minor agg., 6 Setaceous Hebrew Character, 1 Mouse Ear Groundling, 2 Poplar Hawk, 1 Cnephasia agg., 1 Tawny Wave, 2 Shuttle Shaped Dart, 1 Pallid Grey, 1 Bright-line Brown-eye, 1 Peppered Moth, 1 Privet Hawk, 1 Flame, 1 Small Clouded Brindle, 1 Yellow Belle, 3 Vine Rustic, 1 White Point, 2 Pine Nut Moth, 1 Elephant Hawk, 3 Treble Lines, 1 Bramble shoot Moth, 1 Straw Dot, 1 Cinnabar, 1 Bordered White, 1 Sand Dart, 1 Delicate, 16 Common Wainscot and 3 Heart and Dart.

A really nice mix of species, great to get 3 species of Hawk moth (Poplar, Privet and Elephant) and some more local species like Pine Nut Moth, Mouse Ear Groundling, Tawny Wave, Small Clouded Brindle and Sand Dart. I had a Lesser Banded Longhorn moth around the Obs on some Dog Rose too.

There was a Four-spotted Chaser around the pond along with Large Red and Azure Damselflies. Thick-legged Flower Beetle are out and about now and this one was on one of the Iris around the pond. To top the day off, as I was sitting writing this in the Obs I heard a great commotion outside, rushed out to find a Rabbit chasing a Stoat, not quite the way round you’d expect!
