With a brisk north easterly at the Obs today (making it feel like autumn/winter again!), it wasn’t suitable conditions this morning for ringing. We did however, take advantage of the conditions and the early morning high tide to spend some time seawatching and it turned out to be a pretty good morning.

In 1.5 hours we recorded 35 Brent Geese, 2 Eider (a nice male and female), 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 2 Whimbrel, 3 Kittiwake, 14 Little Tern, 3 Common Tern, 38 Sandwich Tern, 7 Common/Arctic Tern, 1 Red-throated Diver, 10 Gannet, 5 Fulmar and 13 Grey Plover. On a later seawatch 26 Little Tern, 4 Kittiwake and an Arctic Tern were reported. It was quiet from the car park hide with the usual Shelduck, Avocet, Little Egret and Pochard, and the single Wigeon that has been hanging around. A Little Tern flew past in front of the car park hides giving great views!

The moth traps were pretty empty again with 1 Pine Beauty, 1 Flame Shoulder, 5 Shuttle Shaped Dart and 1 Coastal Buff.
