This morning it felt more like autumn than spring but there still wasn’t any substantial rainfall. The afternoon was rather nice, sunny and wind still.

It was a quite day for birding with these highlights: 2 Great White Egret (an immature/non breeding bird with a yellow bill and an adult/breeding plumage bird with a black bill and yellow base) on Broadwater, 1 Cuckoo flying around the observatory all day and singing from the pines, 1 Common Sandpiper and 1 Greenshank at Redwell.

The moth trap was interesting though: 4 Cinnabar, 2 Pine Beauty, 2 Light-brown Apple, 2 Small Waved Umber, 1 Angle-barred Pug, 1 Red Chestnut, 4 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 5 Muslin, 1 Treble Line, 2 Northern Drab, 2 Green Carpet, 1 Hebrew Character, 1 Turnip, 1 Powdered Quaker, 2 Waved Umber, 2 White Ermine.

In the afternoon the butterflies came out. There were Painted Ladys migrating, Small Copper chasing each other around, lots of Walls and some Peacocks.
