Another early start with the continuing good conditions for ringing (and this time we didn’t have to scrape any frost off the van!). It was nice and overcast first thing which is good for the nets as it makes them less visible, with a gentle easterly that meant all the nets could be opened.

We caught 20 birds across the morning (10 Sedge Warbler, 2 Blue Tit, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 2 Wren, 1 Great Tit) and though it was generally quiet on net rounds most of the morning we had a mini influx of Sedge Warbler mid-morning, including one which was a French ringed bird! It will be interesting to get the details on this bird to see where and when it was ringed.

Otherwise around the Obs, we also had at least 2 Tree Pipit, 1 Redpoll, 3 Crossbill and 3 Yellow Wag overhead. The Cuckoo was back singing on the grazing marsh, and the Tawny Owl started hooting randomly mid-morning!

We caught 1 Hebrew Character, 8 Muslin, 1 Northern Drab and a lovely fresh Green Carpet. There were Green Hairstreak, Red Admiral, Small Copper and Peacock on the wing around the Obs today.
