It was another early start with frosty conditions for some ringing first thing and it was another quiet day numbers wise with 16 birds processed, but with some quality birds. For new birds we caught 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Wren, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Sedge Warbler, 2 Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap and 1 Lesser Whitethroat. So, a few more migrants moving today. For retraps we had 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Great Tit, 2 Long-tailed Tit, 1 Blackcap,1 Robin and 1 Cettis’ Warbler.

The highlight of the day was a White Stork which was tracked along the coast from Sheringham to reaching Holme at around midday. We were treated to it circling high over the grazing marsh, being mobbed by 3 Red Kite, before slowly drifting west again right over the NWT car park pools. The bird was metal but not colour ringed. We had been hearing the Cuckoo on the marsh most of the day then mid-morning one came crashing into the Alder in front of the Obs being harassed by the local Meadow Pipit and sat singing for a few minutes before flying off. Shortly after that a Wheatear flew and landed in the Tamarisk (which is flowering now) before also going in the Alder tree before disappearing west! Two Yellow Wag went over the Obs west.

Similar numbers/diversity in the moth traps with 7 Muslin, 1 Pine Beauty, 1 Hebrew Character, 1 Powdered Quaker and 1 Shuttle Shaped Dart. The Green Hairstreak were showing beautifully around the Obs and pond.
