Crossbills
The north-easterly wind continued and chilled all but the hardiest bird watcher to the bone. The highlights of today’s birding are: 8 Crossbill (incl. male, female and two youngsters), 2 Redpoll, 1 Spoonbill, 1 Greenshank, 18 Black-tailed Godwit and 4 Ruff on Broadwater, 7 Whimbrel flying over and 2 Ring Ouzels in the Dunes and Stonechats feeding their first broods.
The moths also didn’t like the cold wind so the trap contained only 3 Pine Beauty, 1 Shuttle-shaped Dart and 2 Muslin.
However during sunny spells we saw 1 Speckled Wood, 2 White sp, 1 Red Admiral, 1 Small Copper (aberration with no orange on hindwing), 2 Green Hairstreak and 1 Orange Tip.
