Spoonbill

An adult Med Gull drifted west over the pines and a Spoonbill was asleep near the car park hide, with a Great White Egret, 2 Red Kites, 8 Avocets, 6 Redshank and 4 Lesser Whitethroats were of interest.

In the moth traps today 5 Bird Cherry Ermine, 5 Garden Grass Moths, 10 Brown Tails, 4 Common Footmen, 3 Scarce Footmen, 3 Small Elephant Hawks,2 Lime-speck Pugs, an Elephant Hawk, a Common Swift, Broad Bordered Yellow Underwing, Lesser Yellow Underwing, 2 Sand Darts, Brown Rustic, 3 Rustics, 2 Mottled Rustics, Ruby Tiger, Dark Arches, Fen Wainscot, 2 Poplar Greys, a Heart & Dart, 3 Uncertains,2 Heart & Clubs, a Smoky Wainscot, 3 Flames,an Ear sp, 2 Turnips, a Large Yellow Underwing, Nutmeg, Agapeta hamana, and Ethmia dodecea were caught. A Humming-bird Hawk moth was on the Viper’s Bugloss near the Observatory centre.

Butterflies included Large and Small White, Ringlet, Comma, 3 Wall Browns, 15 Meadow Browns, a Small Skipper species and at least 4 Gatekeepers.

A Common Darter and a Four-spot Chaser were around the pond and a Common Lizard was in the portaloo.
