A cold and icy start to the morning with occasional showers but turning into quite a nice sunny day. We still managed to do our first morning ringing of the Spring here at the obs with 3 Goldcrest, 1 Cetti’s Warbler, 2 Coal Tit, 2 Robin, 1 Dunnock, 2 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Wren and the highlight of the day was a retrap Chiffchaff which was initially ringed here in 2021.

Bird highlights today were 233 Brent Geese, 2 Egyptian, 21 Pochard, 12 Tufted Duck, 1 Great White Egret, 3 Red Kite, 4 Marsh Harrier and 1 Barn Owl.

No butterflies today with the cooler temperatures, but the Common Toad were very active in the wider reserve and we had at least 5 Smooth Newt in the pond today. There were 2 Hebrew Character in the moth trap.
