Norfolk Ornithologists Association - NOA

A wet start to the day with a southerly changing to WNW. After the rain cleared up, the conditions were good for ringing with 63 new birds ringed, 31 of which were Meadow Pipit and 12 were Reed Bunting. Other ringing highlights include 3 Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaff, 3 Cetti’s Warbler and 5 Goldcrest.

The birding highlight of the day was a Jack Snipe actively feeding and bobbing from the first NWT hide.

The sea was flat calm today and like glass. On the seawatch this morning was 56 Common Scoter, 3 Red-breasted Merganser, 8 Red-throated Diver, 22 Great-crested Grebe, 12 Cormorant, 55 Herring Gull and 4 Knot.

In the moth traps today were 2 Lesser Yellow Underwing, 18 Large Yellow Underwing, 10 Narrow-winged Grey, 1 Beaded Chestnut, 1 Dotted Chestnut, 1 Black Rustic, 1 Large Wainscot, 1 Vapourer, 1 Red-line quaker, 1 Rusty Dot Pearl and 1 Lunar Underwing. Wall Brown, Red Admiral and Large White were still on the wing, with good numbers of Migrant Hawker and Common Darter around.
