Moth Day 2024

A BIG THANKYOU to everyone who came to our moth day this morning despite poor conditions, a very good morning’s mothing!

At least 4 Whimbrel passed over calling, a Crossbill was in the pines near the Observatory and a mixed flock of over 100 Sand and House Martins was again seen especially when light rain fell.

Moth traps, including an extra MV trap run for the moth day, produced a Peppered Moth, 21 Common Footmen, a Least Carpet, 6 Rustic, a Cinnabar, 5 Rosy Footmen, 2 Scarce Footmen, a Shaded Broad-bar, 6 Large Yellow Underwings, 2 Dark Arches, a Buff Tip, a Garden Tiger, Heart & Club, Elephant Hawk and Single Dotted Wave were caught.
