Garden Tiger Caterpillar

On the sea today 4 Little Terns, 82 Sandwich Terns, 16 Commn Terns and a Med Gull were of note, and 8 Spoonbills, a Great White Egret, 79 Curlew and a Great Spotted Woodpecker were also recorded.

Moths included 2 Pine Hawk moths, a Privet Hawk, Rosy Footman, 6 Common Footman, 6 Uncertain, a Dark Sword-grass, Yellow Tail, Smoky Wainscot, Buff Tip, Small Emerald, Dwarf Cream Wave, Spectacle, Dark Arches, Fen Wainscot, Brimstone, Mottled Rustic, Barred Straw, Large Yellow Underwing and a Small Elephant Hawk. A Garden Tiger caterpillar was near the Obs centre.

Butterflies were far more numerous in the sunshine than in recent days, with 20 Meadow Browns, 6 Ringlets, 2 Small Heaths, 3 Gatekeepers, 3 Large Whites, a Small Skipper sp and 2 Red Admirals counted. Dragonflies included Emperor, Black-tailed Skimmer and Common Darter.
