A cool start but highlights today included 32 Dark-bellied Brents over the grazing marsh, a Garganey and a Wood Sandpiper at Thornham, 25 Black-tailed Godwits, an Arctic Tern west along the Broadwater, a Cuckoo, 150+ Swifts, 2 Sand Martins, 15 Swallows, 2 House Martins and 2 Siskins.
In the moth traps 8 Cinnabars, a Small Waved Umber, 3 White Ermines, 7 Yellow Belles, 3 Muslins, 2 Angle-barred Peacocks, a Turnip, 4 Flame Shoulders, Waved Umber, Willow Beauty, a Shuttle-shaped Dart, 2 Green Carpets, 3 Treble Lines, Purple Bar, Pale Tussock, Privet Hawk, Common Carpet, and Pinion-streaked Snout were caught.
A Broad-bodied Chaser and 2 Azure Damselflies were noted, and butterflies came out in the afternoon sunshine with Green Hairstreak, Small Heath, Speckled Wood and Wall Brown among the species seen.
