Spoonbill – Seamus Griffin

It’s been a mild cloudy day at the obs with occasional showers. A beautiful Spoonbill was having a bath on the Broad Water this morning. On the flooded field towards Thornham, a Greenshank, Wood Sandpiper, 2 drake Garganey and 2 Common Sandpipers were present. A Wheatear was seen flying in off the sea.

In the moth traps today were 2 Small Waved Umber, 11 Treble Lines, 9 Flame Shoulder, 1 Shuttle Shaped Dart, 1 Willow Beauty, 1 Angle-barred Pug, 1 Fern, 1 Small Elephant Hawk, 1 Small Square Spot, 1 White Spot, 1 Cinnabar, 1 Pine Beauty and 1 Northern Drab. At least 5 Wall Brown and 1 Four Spotted Chaser were also seen.
