Moorhen and chick Redwell – Karla Otta

On the sea today 5 Gannets, a Fulmar, a Little Tern, 68 Sandwich Terns and 2 Common Terns were seen, with 5 Cuckoos, a Barn Owl, 8 Sand Martins, 10 Swallows, 2 House Martins, 5 Chiffchaffs, a Blackcap, Willow Warbler, 4 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Whitethroats, 10 Sedge and 4 Reed Warblers, and 2 Stonechats also of interest.

In the moth traps were 2 Bordered Whites, 5 Common Footmen, 6 Cinnabars, 4 Sharp-angled Peacocks, a Poplar Hawk, 6 Haworth’s Pugs, 12 Common Swifts, 3 Uncertains, 2 Striped Wainscots, 3 Barred Yellows, 2 Dark Arches, 12 Mottled Rustics, 5 Turnips, 7 Painted Nebs, 5 Brown Rustics, 2 Small Emeralds, a Small Elephant Hawk, Flame Shoulder, Scarce Footman, Lyme Grass, Smoky Wainscot, Spectacle, 2 Willow Beauties, 2 Sand Darts, Large Yellow Underwing, Heart & Club, 2 Rustics, a Heart & Dart, Rosy Wave, Ear species, 2 Eyed Hawk Moths, a Beautiful Hook-tip, Elephant Hawk Moth, Shore Wainscot, Buff Tip, Fern, Buff Long-horn, and a Humming-bird Hawk Moth.

Butterflies included 20 Meadow Browns, 3 Speckled Woods, 5 Ringlets, 6 Small Skipper species, a Brown Argus, 2 Common Blues, 10 Small Heaths and 3 Red Admirals. Broad-bodied Chaser, Black-tailed Skimmer, Ruddy Darter and Four-spot Chaser were all on the wing.
