Elephant Hawk
It was noticeably much cooler this morning and less humid which was a bit of a relief, also helped by the blustery easterly wind. It turned hot again by the afternoon. It was quiet for bird sightings today with the highlight being a Greenshank going up and down the Broadwater and 2 Crossbill went over the pines in the afternoon.
It was quite busy in the moth traps this morning with the catch being dominated by 45 Brown-tail! Other moths included 3 Riband Wave, 1 S. gigantella, 14 Bird Cherry Ermine, 7 Pale Blossom Knot-horn, 20 Common Footman, 15 Garden Grass Moth, 2 Pine Hawk, 2 Scarce Footman, 1 Gypsonoma aceriana, 1 Sand Dart, 6 Dwarf Cream Wave, 4 Oxypteryx wilkella, 8 Diamondback, 13 Pine Marble, 1 Marbled Minor agg., 1 Bulrush Veneer, 8 Heart and Club, 2 Sandhill Knot-horn, 1 Elephant Hawk, 2 Heart and Dart, 1 Agapeta hamana, 1 Cinnabar, 1 Barred Straw, 7 Cnephasia agg., 5 Large Yellow Underwing, 2 Small Emerald, 1 Common White Wave, 2 Smoky Wainscot, 1 Mere Wainscot, 1 Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, 1 Striped Wainscot, 1 Least Carpet, 1 Poplar Grey, 2 P. despicata, 1 Mottled Rustic, 1 Oak Eggar, 1 Uncertain, 1 Beautiful Hook-tip, 1 Haworth’s Pug, 1 Buff-tip, 1 Garden Grey and another Scarlet Tiger!!

What a beauty!

Blue-tailed Damselfly that decided the Obs blinds were a good spot to rest!
