Scarlet Tiger – Shannon Clifford
Bee and I had a very early start this morning to make the most of the good ringing conditions before it got too hot. We had a steady morning catching 32 birds, with many juveniles which was lovely to see.
For new birds 2 Dunnock, 2 Great Tit, 1 Wren, 3 Sedge Warbler, 1 Robin, 2 Blue Tit, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, 1 Goldfinch and 2 Linnet. For retraps we had 2 Sedge Warbler, 1 Goldfinch, 2 Great Tit, 3 Blue Tit, 1 Blackcap, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Robin, 1 Goldcrest and 2 Cetti’s Warbler.
There were 2 Spoonbill on the Broadwater first thing along with at least 80 Black-headed Gull. It was nice to see wader chicks around the recording area with Lapwing, Redshank and Avocet chicks all from the car park hide.
It was an extremely busy day in the moth traps for our Wednesday moth morning. The highlight of the day was 3 Scarlet Tigers! There was two in the traps then on a net round (before the moth traps had been emptied) I found another resting on the vegetation, such fantastic moths!

Our very long moth list!
