Garganey

It was another blustery morning, though at last free of frost. The highlight of the day’s birding was a pair of Garganey on Broadwater (photo kindly provided by Seamus Griffin). News of their sighting spread quickly, prompting a rush of visitors—so much so that the little NOA hide was filled to capacity, with hardly room for another person.

Further highlights were 3 Ruff on Hun Pool, a Spoonbill on Broadwater, 1 Crossbill in the pines at the Obs, 1 Ring Ouzel in the Dunes, and 2 Whimbrel flying over Broadwater.

The moth trap contained 4 Pine Beauty, 1 Emperor, 1 Clouded Drab, 1 Northern Drab, 3 Muslin, 1 Hebrew Character, 1 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 1 Ermine and 1 Common Quaker.
