A blustery westerly today at the Observatory, and a chilly start turning into quite a nice sunny autumnal day. On an early morning seawatch we had 3 Tufted Duck, 1 Sooty Shearwater, 1 Manx Shearwater, 5 Kittiwake, a flock of 5 Red-breasted Merganser and 1 Arctic Skua (which flew right along the beach after giving up chasing some terns!). A Merlin appeared on the beach on two occasions which was lovely to see. I had 6 Crossbill in the Pines mid-morning.
