Holme Bird Observatory
for as little as 14p per day.
11th June 2026

Another wet and windy day at the Obs! The morning was dry but by 11am heavy rain had set in for most of the day and it became very blustery. So it was pretty quiet for bird sightings with the main highlight being a nice and close Spoonbill feeding on the Broadwater! We also had a small group of Hirundines feeding low over the Broadwater made up of House Martin and Sand Martin. The wet and windy weather did mean it was a good opportunity to catch up with ringing data entry and general admin.
The moth traps were pretty quiet with 1 Common Grey, 2 Cinnabar, 1 Mottled Rustic, 1 Bordered White, 3 Straw-barred Pearl, 1 Treble Brown Spot, 1 Cnephasia agg., 1 Large Yellow Underwing and 1 White Ermine. We had no butterfly or dragonflies today!
