Holme Bird Observatory
for as little as 14p per day.
29th April 2026

The highlight of the day was a male and female Whinchat from the NWT Hide 1, showing well perching on the grassy bank behind the pools. Five Whimbrel flew past just about right over our head at the Obs which was lovely. There was a small trickle of Swallow going past the Obs and when I was in the dunes, flying quite low west.
We only had 3 moths in the moth traps for our moth morning with 1 Muslin, 1 Shuttle Shaped Dart and 1 Turnip. The site is very exposed in this wind direction! However, we were treated to a stunning Lime Hawk Moth (the brunnea form) and Toadflax Brocade which were kindly brought in for everyone to see.
Despite the weather, the Green Hairstreak were continuing to show off to visitors! A Small Copper was also sunning themselves on the path to the hides.
