Frosted Green
It was a sunny but rather chilly morning with an icy wind blowing from the north. The moth trap was rather interesting with 8 species: 7 Muslin, 1 Pine Beauty, 1 Emperor, 4 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 1 Frosted Green, 2 Hebrew Character, 1 Ermine and 2 Northern Drab.
My favourite moth was the Frosted Green as it looked as if it had little horns on its head.
Additionally, to some nice moths, I saw my first Orange Tip butterfly and a Green Hairstreak was seen near the pond at the bird observatory.
The bird highlights today were: 2 Ring Ouzel and 14 Wheatear in the dunes, singing Grasshopper Warbler at Salting’s car park, male Common Redstart in scrub at reserve entrance, one report of a blue-headed Yellow Wagtail east of concrete bunker, 2 Lesser Whitethroats in Dunes and a Greenshank at Redwell Marsh.
