16th March 2026

Early Thorn

Another breezy day at the Obs. The sea was really quiet today when I looked with only 4 Red-breasted Merganser and 4 Tufted Duck of note. The Bittern was booming loudly this morning.

Whilst I was doing the moth traps this morning a couple of Crossbill came and landed in the pines above the shed and one briefly sang! Lovely. Only 5 species of moths in the traps today, however not surprising given the persistent cool and windy conditions. We had 1 Mottled Grey, 2 Early Thorn, 1 March Moth, 1 Small Quaker and 5 Hebrew Character.
