Long-tailed Duck Ben Rackstraw

A really chilly day at the Observatory with a biting northerly that made staying still for any period of time unpleasant! There was a stunning drake Long-tailed Duck on the sea at Gore Point this morning. The sea was quiet otherwise with just a flock of Teal and 4 Red-breasted Merganser seen. Just beyond Gore Point there was a single Snow Bunting feeding with a flock of Sanderling and Turnstone on the wrack line on the beach.

A Firecrest was reported with some Long-tailed Tit off Broadwater Road near Redwell. Redwell has quite a bit of water on it now and had a flock of 60 Teal and a single Wigeon. A few Goldfinches were coming down to feed on the Teasel seedheads.
