Sunrise at the Obs
It has been a stunning winters day at the Obs, with freezing temperatures first thing then blue skies and sunshine! We ambitiously opened the nets this morning but there were very few birds caught, a total of 13! The majority of the birds were retraps: 1 Dunnock, 4 Coal Tits, 2 Blue Tits, 1 Robin and 2 Goldcrest. The new birds were a single Blackbird, Blackcap and Greenfinch.
Around the Obs the highlight was a Yellow-browed Warbler on the East Bank this morning, other interesting sightings include 2 Ravens flying over the Obs this afternoon and 2 Barn Owls. On the beach and Sea the highlights were: 23 Little Gulls, 1 Long-tailed Duck, 19 Common Scoter, 16 Red-breasted Mergansers, 5 Red-throated Divers, 3 Great Northern Divers, 7 Fulmar, 65 Cormorants, 12 Great Crested Grebes, 6000 Starling, 83 Oystercatchers, 4 Grey Plover, 18 Curlew, 8 Bar-tailed Godwit, 18 Sanderling, 4 Dunlin and 11 Redshank.
