Another big tide first thing this morning and the sea was pretty much flat calm. The 4 Slavonian Grebe were showing really well pretty close in, but were actively diving and hard to keep track of at times. Whilst we were watching the Slavonian Grebes we picked up a close in Velvet Scoter which then disappeared off east, and a single Shorelark appeared working its way along the beach towards us! Lovely to sit and watch one feeding so closely. Two Snow Bunting were also seen on the beach near Gore Point.

There were at least 2 Great Northern Diver on the sea, one was a summer plumage bird. There were also 34 Great Crested Grebe and at least 10 Red-throated Diver. There were 6 Razorbill and 1 Guillemot. Also on the beach was a Merlin and a Peregrine (carrying some large prey that looked like it was hard work for the Peregrine to carry!).

Towards Thornham there was at least 4 Rock Pipit and a single Water Pipit sitting on one of the boats in the channel.  Three Crossbill and one Blackcap were also on the reserve.

Shorelark

Five species in the moth traps 2 Large Yellow Underwing, 21 Rusty Dot Pearl, 5 Narrow-winged Grey, 1 Large Wainscot and 1 Marbled Fern.
