There have been a few birds around today and good pipit passage with at least 80 Meadow Pipits passing through this morning and a single Water Pipit and Rock Pipit. 3 Eider, 1 Red-throated Diver, 1 Gannet, 10 Red-breasted Mergansers, 7 Great Crested Grebes, 45 Brent Geese and 2 Guillemot were seen on the sea. Other sightings around the Observatory include 4000 Pink Footed Geese, 4 Greenshank, 1 Snipe, 2 Jack Snipe, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 190 Knot, 180 Oystercatchers,  1 Merlin, 1 Peregrine,  2 Pintail,  8 Crossbills, 2 Siskins, 1 Woodlark, 20 Skylark, 35 Blackbirds, 10 Redwing and 1 Fieldfare.

We managed to open a few nets this morning and caught 56 birds including: 12 Goldcrests, 1 Wren, 1 Chiffchaff, 3 Robin, 13 Meadow Pipit, 2 Blackcap, 1 Coal Tit, 4 Great Tit, 4 Blackbird and 5 Blue Tits. For retraps we had: 1 Robin, 1 Blackbird, 2 Blue Tits, 1 Goldcrest, 2 Wren, 1 Cetti’s Warbler, 1 Coal Tit and 1 Long Tailed Tit.

Today has been another nice moth day with 7 Rusty-dot Pearl, 16 Large Wainscot, 2 Beaded Chestnut, 9 White-point, 10 Large Yellow Underwing, 11 Narrow-winged Grey, 1 Vine’s Rustic, 3 Merveille Du Jour, 1 Red-green Carpet, 1 Green-brindled Crescent, 3 Black Rustic, 1 Silver Y, 1 Satellite, 1 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 1 Lunar Underwing and 1 Turnip Moth.
