There have been good numbers of thrushes around today, with 25 Blackbirds, 30 Redwing, and 2 Fieldfare. There has also been 8 Crossbill, 3 Brambling, 20 Chaffinch, 4 Redpoll, 2 Grey Wagtail, 1 Great White Egret, 2 Cattle Egret, 4 Little Egret, 1 Greenshank, 2 Jack Snipe, 4 Tufted Duck, 121 Teal, 32 Mallard, 17 Shoveler, 1 Wigeon and 2 Pintail. A Peregrine was on the beach this morning, and a Merlin was seen hunting over the Grazing Marsh. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to ring today due to the high winds.

We had an interesting day in the moth trap with 25 species overall, including 2 new species for the Observatory! These were a Cyprus Carpet and a Marbled Fern (see images below). Other species caught include: 1 Feathered Thorn, 2 Black Rustic, 21 Large Wainscot, 11 Large Yellow Underwing, 17 Narrow-Winged Grey, 7 White Point, 1 Box-tree Moth, 2 Square-spot Rustic, 1 Green-brindled Crescent, 2 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 1 Feathered Ranunculus, 1 Lunar Underwing, 3 Rush Veneer, 4 Turnip, 1 Red-green Carpet, 1 Clancy’s Rustic, 1 Red-line Quaker, 8 Rusty Dot Pearl, 1 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, 1 Beaded Chestnut, 1 Chestnut and 1 Dotted Chestnut.
