Too windy for ringing today unfortunately with a strong south easterly. A Purple Sandpiper was on the beach first thing before unfortunately being disturbed and then disappeared. Two Jack Snipe were seen from the NWT hides, one of which was feeding very closely to the hide and despite this was still really difficult to find if you took your eye off it!

A Peregrine was sitting on the beach towards Thornham Channel this morning. Small numbers of thrushes continuing to trickle in today with 57 Blackbird, 21 Redwing, 7 Song Thrush and singles of Fieldfare and Mistle Thrush. There was also 1 Cattle Egret, 2 Swallow, 5 Bearded Tit, 1 Woodlark, 32 Crossbill, 2 Redpoll and a single Hawfinch over. A single Guillemot, Razorbill, Red-throated Diver and 3 Great Crested Grebe were on the sea.

Nice variety in the moth traps today with 15 Large Wainscot, 2 White Point, 5 Narrow-winged Grey, 2 Black Rustic, 7 Large Yellow Underwing, 1 Feathered Ranunculus, 3 Turnip, 7 Lunar Underwing, 2 Beaded Chestnut, 1 Shore Wainscot, 1 Least Carpet, 1 Chestnut and 1 Oak Rustic! This is only the third record of one at Holme, the first in 2023 and the second in 2024. The species was only recorded in Norfolk for the first time in 2021, so lovely to get another one of these moths at the Observatory.
