Marbled Clover

A quiet day for birds with showers arriving late morning. Of interest around the Broadwater were 5 Teal, 4 Avocets, 6 Black-tailed Godwits and 3 Lapwings, with a Cetti’s Warbler, 2 Chiffchaffs, a Blackcap, a Sedge and 2 Reed Warblers also recorded.

In the moth traps 3 Large Yellow Underwings, 6 Common Wainscots, 3 Sharp-angled Peacocks, 2 Straw Dots, 21 Scarce Footmen, 6 Garden Tigers, a Bedstraw Hawk Moth, at least one Humming-bird Hawkmoth during the day on the buddleias, a Southern Wainscot, 5 Yellow-tails, a Broad Bordered Yellow Underwing, a Lime-speck Pug, 8 Dingy Footmen, a Shoulder-striped Wainscot, a Small Waved Umber, a Scalloped Oak, 4 Common Rustics, a Dark Arches, 5 Uncertains, 4 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 5 Shuttle-shaped Darts, 3 Flame Shoulders, a Buff Ermine, 2 Least Carpets, 11 Bird-cherry Ermines, a Garden Pebble, Lozotaenoides formosana, Platytes alpinella, 2 Chilo phragmitella, 3 Ringed China-marks, 3 Blastobasis adustella, 2 Garden Grass moths, a Piniphila bifasciana, Calamotropha paludella, Blastobasis lacticolella, Catoptria falsella, a Light Brown Apple moth, Agriphila straminella, a Saltmarsh Plume, Mother of Pearl, Pyrausta despicata, 2 Single Dotted Waves, 3 Rustic/Uncertain agg., a Marbled Minor agg., a Small Fan-footed Wave, 2 Brown Tails, a Rosy Footman, Coronet, Turnip, Drinker, Marbled Clover, Ruby Tiger, Rosy Minor, Archer’s Dart, Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing and 3 Blue Fleabane Straws.

Owing to the showery rain which began late morning there were few butterflies and dragonflies, but 2 Large Whites, a Gatekeeper, Wall Brown, and Red Admiral were noted together with Common Darter and Migrant Hawker and a Wasp Spider near the pond.
