Green Hairstreak – Seamus Griffin

A quieter day at the obs today, but beautiful and warm despite the strong southerly wind. The Eastern Subalpine Warbler has not been seen today (so far). Highlights today include 1 Firecrest, 7 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Cuckoo, 1 Common Sandpiper and 1 Wheatear. The 7 Cattle Egret and 2 Garganey were still around towards Thornham. A White-tailed Eagle was also seen flying past on the sea from Titchwell.

In the moth traps today were 1 Hebrew Character, 1 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 1 Powdered Quaker and one beautiful female Emperor. Silver-Y, one Green Longhorn (Adela reaumurella) and a Ruby Tiger was also seen on the reserve. It was a great day for butterflies too with a maximum temperature of 19 degrees and sunny conditions, with 4 Orange Tip, 8 Green Hairstreak, 2 Wall Brown, 1 Speckled Wood, 4 Peacock, 2 Small White, 2 Green-viened White, 2 Brimstone and 2 Holly Blue. Two Large Red Damselfly were also seen.
